Getting To and From Alpe d'Huez
One of the biggest advantages of choosing a holiday that is more bespoke than a package holiday is the ability to choose your own method of travel. This gives you much more flexibility in where you travel from and how you travel.
We have put together some information in the following pages of the various methods of getting to resort. When booking your travel please keep in mind that as with the majority of holiday accommodation we have a check in and out time and that we have arrivals on a Saturday.
Check in: 16.00
Check out: 10.00

Alpe d’Huez By Air
Getting to Alpe d’Huez by air could not be easier with four international airports within 2.45 hours of the area. Grenoble is the closest at only 1.30 hours drive from the chalet with Chambery 2 hours, Lyon 2.20 hours and Geneva 2.45 hours from the resort. All of the budget airlines fly to the area and BA have recently started flying to Chambery from London City airport. Please remember when booking that our holidays run Saturday to Saturday.
Alpe d’Huez By Car
Getting to Alpe d’Huez by car is a relatively easy drive. From Calais it takes about 9.5 hours including a few rest stops on the way. It is toll road nearly all the way to Alpe d’Huez and so easy to navigate.
One of the advantages of driving is that if you want to travel on Friday and stay overnight somewhere close by you can arrive early on the Saturday morning and go straight out for a ski. We are happy to welcome you early and have facilities to store your luggage until the rooms are ready.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay for an overnight stop on the way then please don’t hesitate to get in contact and we will be able to suggest some suitable options
Please remember that when driving in France there are slightly different laws from the UK, you will need headlamp deflectors, high visibility vests in case you break down and also a warning triangle.
You will also need to either have winter/all-season tyres (minimum “3PMSF” M+S rated) or have chains in the car, this is obligatory on the mountain roads from November 2024 and there are points on the roads coming up the mountain called “aire de chainage” which are areas specifically for putting on and taking off snow chains. It is always best to put the snow chains on before attempting a steep mountain road if it is snowing. In France you can buy snow chains at nearly all of the petrol stations but please be aware that on Sundays only the motorway stations will be open, although you can fill up using automated pumps with a card.
Alpe d’Huez By Train
There is a Eurostar/TGV service running from St Pancras on a Saturday which is a very eco friendly way of travelling. The train arrives in Grenoble which is a 1.5 hour drive from the chalet.
You will need to change in Lyon but the whole journey is typically a smooth and painless experience. The train leaves London at around 07.30 and you will generally arrive in resort for 18.00 just in time for champagne and canapes.
If you have never travelled to a ski resort by train then we recommend you take a look at the Snowcarbon website who have an excellent guide. It is advisable to book early for the trains as prices do increase the closer the travel date.

Snowcarbon have an informative guide about travelling by Train around Europe
Paris City Line offer a very competetive service to get you from Paris Nord to Paris Lyon for your change of train.
Private Minibus Transfer
If you are travelling in a group of 4 or more then it is often best to book a minibus transfer from the airport. The advantage of this is that you are met at the airport or train station and will be taken comfortably to your chalet with no fuss or hassle.
We are proud to be working alongside Alp Express and Bens Bus, companies with many years experience and offer a highly professional service. If you would like to book a private minibus transfer then please let us know.
Ben’s Bus run regular shared transfers from Grenoble Airport to Alpe d’Huez, connecting with every scheduled flight. Return with discounts for groups and children. When you book with them, select the bus stop BERGERS as that is the closest stop to our Chalet. More information can be found here
